// posted by Jessica in Video Games @ 6:13:45 pm - 2 Comments »As you may or may not know, I haven’t played The Sims 2 in awhile (like 6 months to a year). This is basically due to the fact that several months ago the first disc of my Nightlife expansion went missing. This is the disc I need to run the game. I knew I took it out of my laptop when I bought The Movies last fall, but I hadn’t seen it since. When I got ready to move, I searched high and low for the disc, but never found it. I checked every CD and DVD case I had, but it was nowhere to be found. I concluded that when I was cleaning one day, it must have found its way into a trash pile.
So, not even a week ago, I buy a new copy of it on Ebay. Since the Pets expansion is coming out in October, I need to migrate all my files over to the new desktop and install Open for Business, which I hadn’t played yet. The new copy is supposed to come in tomorrow.
I was bored this afternoon, so I decided to install some games on my desktop. I took the box for The Movies out of my desk, when a thought occurs to me. The box is one of those that has a flap on the outside that is velcroed so you can open it up and learn more about the game. What if, by some chance, I had stuck the Nightlife disc inside there? I had checked the inside of the box and case a million times. But this had never occurred to me.
I slid my finger under the flap. There was a disc.
I open it up. There it is.
So, does anyone want to buy a copy of The Sims 2: Nightlife? Cause now I have two.
On a similar note, I went to open a can today for lunch and found out my can opener wasn’t working. I tried two different outlets and nothing. So I went to the store and bought another one, came home, tried it out. Nothing. I tried a completely different outlet with the first can opener and it worked. So now I have two can openers and two outlets that apparently don’t work.

I’m going back to bed now.

I meant to post them forever ago, when I first found them. Anyway, here’s a few pictures from the Strokes concert I went to in Nashville back in March. I have no idea who took these, so if they are yours, please let me know and I will give you credit!

At least I got the thing online. While I was waiting for the UPS guy, I was thinking to myself, “How am I going to run an ethernet cable from the living room (where the router is) to the spare bedroom?” I was imagining going out and buying some massively long cable and something that involved staples and the ceiling. And then I happened to remember something that I had noticed when I was inspecting the apartment when I moved in.
There’s a hole in the wall between the living room and the bedroom.
So that’s what that was for! So I spent a good hour or two trying to force a cable through it, while trying not to get it stuck between the walls.
After exposing the wires from pulling too hard on it and jamming a few wooden skewers through it (and my hand), I finally got it through! Yay!
Now I just have to wait for the surge protector to come, cause right now my monitor is only on if the light switch is on. Hehe.

// posted by Jessica in Board Games, Website @ 7:03:47 pm - 3 Comments »The only thing I haven’t quite figured out is why, on the main page, the full name of the month under “latest blog post” won’t display correctly. It only shows up as the first letter. I’m stumped on this one. I may have to go directly into the database to get that information instead of using Wordpress’s nice little functions.
I added Board Games under the “Stuff I Own” section, since I frequently get asked what games I have when a board game party gets close. That’s not all of them, but it’s all the ones that Amazon had listed. I also have Titanic: the Board Game, Alibi, and Careers.
I’m also working on a calendar app right now that will show all the information from the events section plus any blog posts that have been made. One day I may add days reviews were posted, but that would require me reformatting the review database and I just don’t feel up to that right now.
Anyway, let me know if anything funny is going on. I’ve tested this under Firefox 1.5 and IE 6.0 under Windows XP and everything seems to be looking good, but let me know if it shows up funny on your Mac or something.

I decided that in order to do a couple things that I might like to do to the site, I need full access to my posts and stuff. Hence the need for the switch from Blogger. Plus now my comments are integrated better, instead of being hosted on Haloscan.

// posted by Jessica in Computers @ 10:45:00 pm - 2 Comments »I decided that I needed one around. Mainly, so I can have a stable environment to play the Sims when the Pets expansion pack comes out in two months, but also to have access to my music and photos through TiVo at all times. Because right now, I can only get to it if my laptop is not on stand-by, and if it’s not on stand-by, then I have it in my hands, so I might as well listen to music or whatever that way. I basically just need some sort of stable computer, since Tera is kind of on the fritz and my other laptop is my work computer.
I went the lazy route and bought one through Dell instead of just building my own. I’m the worst geek ever.
I ended up getting an XPS 400. Here’s the highlight of the specs for the curious:
* Intel Pentium D Processor 820 (2.8GHz) w/ Dual Core Technology
* 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
* 250GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM)
* 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
* 19 in 1907FPCFlat Panel Display
* Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Anyway, it should be here next week. I need to somehow get a copy of the first Nightlife expansion disc for the Sims, because I’m fairly certain that I accidentally threw mine away. I didn’t find it in the move, anyway. It’ll be nice to have a working DVD burner again. And a faster one. (Tera’s was 1X…WOOHOO!) Now I just need to figure out how to fit both it and my sewing machine on my desk….
My Tom Petty / Strokes tickets came in the mail today. I think I stared at them for about 10 minutes.
Let me know what you think of the whole “events” thing on the main page. I’m thinking of integrating it somehow with blog posts and photos in some sort of calendar-type arrangement. I haven’t really thought about it that much.

The interface itself is better organized. My programs can get grouped together so you don’t scroll through and see 500 episodes of Seinfeld listed. Now you can just go to the Seinfeld folder and see all the episodes listed my title. Too cool.
Anyway, I just bought tickets to the Tom Petty concert in Atlanta in September. The Strokes are opening. This concert is going to rock.
