Well, I’m officially a college graduate.

Which means more time to play video games and sew costumes. Yay!

Now I just need to find a job….

The end is drawing near…

Only 11 short days until graduation. 0_0 My first final was today, and I think it went rather well. I have another on the 15th.

I can’t believe it’s already December. This year has flown by so fast. It scares me how quickly they go by, the older you get. I remember being a kid and a week was an eternity.

Random thought of the day: Why is it when I put $20 worth of gas in my car, it lasts for a week, but when I put $10 in, it’s gone in a day?

Geez, it’s hot outside. I think I lost ten years of my life just stepping outside today.

Anyway, not a whole lot going on. Hence the lack of updates. Summer school got out about a week ago. I was taking Western Civ, and I got an A. Yay. Fall semester starts on the 24th. I’m taking exciting classes such as “Introduction to Scientific Computing,” “Graphical User Interfaces,” and “Writing, Layout, and Production of Technical Documents.”

I beat FF3 (or 6, whatever) for the first time yesterday. Someone please tell me: is Shadow okay?

And to Scott’s “friend”: get over it.

Well, school has begun…

It’s a little weird walking around campus now since I haven’t in so long. And buying books was a shock to my wallet, heh. But as for my classes….

CS 380, Theory of Computation - This is going to be without a doubt my hardest class. It’s building on Math 300 (remember that disaster?) and CS 311, which wasn’t too bad. Basically a lot of math theory relating to computer science. And something about Turing machines.

CS 365, Programming Languages and Systems - This one doesn’t seem like it will be too hard, but it’s not going to be a breeze either. We’re going to be doing a lot of Java programming, which I really have no clue about (still). The professor seems pretty cool, though, even if he did point out to the entire class that I was the only female in there, heh.

CS 494, Computer and Network Security - This is definitely going to be my favorite class. Seems more interesting than challenging. Just wish it wasn’t three hours long one day a week. :)

More Sim updates later, but for now…

I guess I should start thinking about next semester. I need to go by the financial aid office and see what I can do about paying for it. I got some grants and loans and stuff for this year, but I never got around to really accepting them or anything, so I don’t know what I have.

I’m getting an advising appointment set up for next week sometime, since I can’t really remember which classes I need in order to graduate. I can’t remember if I’ve finished all the classes for my English minor or not. I think I have like 18 or 21 hours left. Not too bad. So here’s what I’m thinking:

Spring 2005: CS 365, CS 380, CS 494
Summer 2005: MS 202
Fall 2005: CS 340 or CS 370, CS 494 (another one), and possible an English class if I need it

My tentative schedule for next semester is:
CS 365 - TR - 9:40-10:55 - Berry (shouldn’t be as bad as it was last spring, different prof)
CS 380 - MWF - 9:05-9:55 - Thomason (reviews for this prof looked decent, I know this is a hard class, a lot of math-type stuff)
CS 494 - W - 3:40-6:20 - Dunigan (this class is on security, looks kinda cool, again the reviews looked good, minimal programming)

Then I’m just going to work after I get out of class, part time. I need a money tree.

I went and looked at the apartments across the street on Monday. I can get a nice-sized 2-bedroom for barely more than I’m paying now for my tiny 1-bedroom. I’m talking like 200-300 more square feet. That will be nice. They don’t have any free right now, but I’m supposed to check back in a couple weeks. I also need to talk to my current landlord about what would happen if I broke my lease.

Yuck.

I just did some quick math.

I would have to get an A on my 365 final in order to PASS the class. With a D. I really don’t think that’s going to happen. What is the point in me even showing up for the final then?

This semester needs to be erased from my college career.

My midterm was decent.

I am fairly confident that I did well. Although, whenever I say that, I usually end up doing horrible, so maybe I should shut up before I jinx myself.

I’m at home right now relaxing until medieval studies at 3:40. I’m almost certain that Tera will come when I’m in class. UPS likes to come around 4:00. Blah. But I can’t skip this class, since I need to know what’s going to be on the exam on Tuesday.

I need to clean my apartment. It seriously looks like a tornado hit it. I’m embarrassed every time I walk through the door. I really wish I liked to clean.

Hmm….CS365 test was okay.

There were a few that I was a little iffy on, and a couple that I really had no clue, but overall, not terribly bad. I think I have a CS311 test on Thursday.

Still trying to finalize my spring break plans. I think I will be in Clarksville till Wednesday or so, then I’m going to head up to Indiana for a few days.

Anyway, I don’t really have a lot to write about, despite the fact that I wore my “I’m blogging this.” shirt today.

I went and returned that Stabbing Westward CD at McKay’s today.

However, their credit card machine was down, so they couldn’t refund my card and gave me store credit instead. So now I have $9 that I can spend at McKay’s. :)

After I did that, I went home. I had to be back on campus at 6 pm for my 365 project class, so I decided at about 3:30 that I would take a quick nap, since there was no way I would sleep more than two hours. I woke up at 6 pm and I was very disoriented. I looked at the clock, and I thought it was 6 am for a couple minutes. Anyway, I missed the class. I guess I was more tired than I thought.

I ordered some more stickers for the back of my car. You can probably guess what they are, but I’m not saying anything. I will take pictures when I get them. :-D

Ugh, I hate school.

494 is kicking my butt. I got so behind last week when I was sick, and now I’m just thinking about dropping the class. My second program is late, and I have no hopes of figuring out where I’ve gone wrong. My first program didn’t get that great of a grade. And this class has a grade that is only based on the five or so programs that we will be doing. And it definitely does not help that the class is done over video and the prof is in Nashville. I can’t really just go talk to him whenever I want (and if I do, I get 25% of my lab grade taken off). Yeah, it’s not going well.

On top of that, I am supposed to be graduating in the fall. So I would have to take another CS class next fall in order to do that. That’s four CS classes. I may just go part time in the fall and the spring and extend this another semester. I won’t have my scholarship to worry about, so part time is all I will need to do to keep my grants.

I don’t know. I don’t feel like I am learning anything that will ever be useful to me. I thought my nightmare class this semester was going to be 311 (since I hated math 300 so much), but that is the only class I can get up and drag myself to and not want to fall asleep in. Why do I go through this every semester?

Back to the grind…

Had a quiz and a test today. Didn’t get much studying done for either of them, since I ended up having plans last night. I’m thinking maybe low Bs/high Cs on both. I know I could have done better, but studying is so boring. Really, someone pass the motivation!

I have my second lab due in 494 on Thursday. I am not letting myself do anything until it is finished. Starting tomorrow. Tonight I am relaxing.

Also, as soon as I find some motivation, I am going to design a nice front page for this site and then do my blog up to match it. I just gotta come up with something. Maybe I need to dig out the ol’ PHP book and do something cool. Hmm…

My neck is killing me. I think I must have been sleeping wrong the past two nights or something. I can barely move my head. Ouch.

So it’s Tuesday. One more day down.

494 lab doesn’t look too bad. Just adding on to the last one and generating SQL statements. Will start on that tomorrow, probably. Part one of my 365 lab is due on the 26th. Will start on that…eventually. I perhaps need to flip through “XML in a Nutshell” before doing that one.

I finally got some quarters, so I can do laundry. I haven’t done laundry in–well, you don’t want to know. Tomorrow I need to run by the post office before I go to work.

I am also still attempting to clean the apartment. It is really slow going. One half of the living room is almost clean. Well, I can see the floor now anyway.

If anyone sees any motivation laying around, will you please pass it on?

Today was a long day.

Now, in addition to all my other classes on Tuesday, I have to go to an extra one for 365 so I can learn how to do our project. You’d think we could just cover that stuff in class or something. Or have a lab on something we talk about in class. Instead, I have to stick around campus for another three hours on Tuesdays, thus putting my days from 9:40 am to 8:00 pm. Anyway, the project does sound halfway interesting anyway. We’re going to be working with XML and Java. Which really ties in nicely with 494.

I still haven’t found any motivation to get wireless working in Linux. Heh. I downloaded this program to display lyrics along with my mp3s and it’s got a karaoke function that displays a line of a song at a time. And the karaoke files are made by the users, so I’ve been making some of those. Yeah, I probably need to be working on my 494 lab instead. It’s due Thursday.

My best friend called me with some exciting news tonight. She is engaged. There is no wedding date yet (and probably won’t be for awhile), but she was excited nonetheless.

I need to see if I can find someone to work for me on the 6th. Since Brina is coming down, she will probably get here about the time that I have to go into work. Or while I’m at work. Plus we are planning the party for that night. And I would prefer to not have to rush home and all that.

I need to go grocery shopping tonight. When I finally got out of class today, I called Little Caesar’s, cause I had a pretty big craving for a baby pan pan and some crazy bread. Well, guess what? They don’t MAKE baby pan pans anymore. And they were “out of deep dish.” So I went home and made grilled cheese sandwiches with month old bread. I’m surprised the bread has kept as well as it has actually. It has a sell-by date of January 3. But it wasn’t green and it wasn’t hard, so I used it.

Okie dokie.

I figured out the whole 365 thing. Apparently, we are going to be doing one project this semester using Java and XML, but that doesn’t start till February. So no stress. :) Also, my first 494 lab isn’t bad. I will probably work on it next week. Am going to get Linux working wonderfully this weekend.

Second day of class went well. Was a little sleepy, but it wasn’t too bad. I managed to stay awake. First week is over! Yay! I really like these two day school weeks. :-D

Okay, I might have been wrong.

There may be programming in CS365, though the syllabus says nothing about it. Feel the stress.

So I’ve been trying to get wireless to work in Linux today. It seems to freeze whenever the yenta_socket module is loaded. I am going to attempt to compile the new kernel and see if it works better. I really hope I don’t break anything. I’ve already had one panic today. :) After I get wireless working, I will worry about sound. But wireless is my #1 priority so that I don’t have to drape myself over my screen while I’m in class so no one can see that I’m using Windows.

Speaking of which, here’s some fun links:

So, January is like half over now, almost. No class next Monday. KLUG meeting on the 22nd. CS494 lab due on the 29th. That is the rest of my month. February should be good. Can’t wait for Puddle of Mudd! Yay!

What a day. A long, long day. I need sleep.

Okay, the rundown on my classes…

First, I had CS365 at 9:40 this morning. Which means I had to get up at 8:00. Oy. Of course, I had work at 9:00 all over break, so you wouldn’t think that 9:40 would be that bad. But that was like three weeks of my life; this is three and a half months. Well two days a week for three and a half months anyway. Okay. Class doesn’t seem too bad. No programming. There is a project, but I don’t know what that is about yet. Just seems like concepts and stuff. Not too bad.

Next was CS311. So far, easy. Today we went over stuff that I was taught in the sixth grade for a math team competition. Hopefully, it stays about the same as this. Easy A, if so.

After an hour and a half break for lunch, I had CS494. This will be the toughy of the semester. Quite a bit of programming, and I need to refresh my memory on C++. It’s been awhile. But it will be cool to get some experience with SQL and XML.

After that was medieval studies. Thankfully we didn’t do anything today but go over the syllabus. After three CS lectures and a full stomach, I was ready to head home. It seems a little bit different from last semester. Though still a TON of reading, but just one huge paper due at the end of the semester rather than two smaller ones during the semester.

Surprisingly, I did know some people in a few of my CS classes. That never happens. :)

I have to finish buying my books. My MS class requires like six different books. Ugggh. I don’t know if I will buy them all. Or at least try to get them cheap on Amazon. I still need to get my CS365 book too. I could probably do well getting O’Reilly’s “Java & XML” too. I ordered it once, but it got lost in the mail. I may try for it again. Yay for used on Amazon!

I am determined to come up with plans for spring break this year. It is my last spring break ever, and I have never done anything! Problem is, I am saving money to go to San Francisco in May, so I don’t really have the money to do so. Hmm.

I must head to bed early tonight in order to prepare for my first day of school this semester.

I am taking the following classes:

CS 311 - Discrete Structures
CS 365 - Programming Language Design and Implementation
CS 494 - Databases, Interfacing Methods, and Interoperability Standards
MS 202 - Medieval Civilization, part 2

Jewel was on the Sharon Osbourne Show today (which TiVo so kindly recorded for me) and she said that she is drawing a cartoon called “Punk Rock Angel Girl” that will be appearing on Nickelodeon. Should be interesting. :)

It’s 3:30 am.

I am writing a paper. I am on page 3. Of 8. No sleep for me tonight.

On top of that, I realized at about 8:00 that I had no printer paper. So I had to go get some. Then I couldn’t get Knoppix to print. Didn’t want to mess with it since I wanted to get started on the paper, so I booted to Windows and printed some stuff that I needed. Well my screwed up computer kept skipping words and lines, so I have basically a lot of nonsense on those pages. Therefore, I will have to “get up” early to go to the lab and print the paper.

Assuming I finish.

Okay, well, I haven’t made much progress on the laptop yet.

Been concentrating on school and stuff. I can’t believe that the semester is almost over. I wish that it was, but still. Heh…I walked into one of my math classes last week and thought I had walked into the wrong room. All the desks were clean. It was scary.

Anyway, this week is going slow because I am looking forward to the weekend. I need to figure out if someone can work for me on Sunday. I kinda want the day off for my birthday. :)

Okay…my English midterm sucked.

I knew it was going to, but I just didn’t think that bad. The first part was 10 obscure quotes. I wasn’t expecting a quotes section. Second part was 15 true/false. I hate true/false. Third part: 25 short answer. The test was over six books. I knew three of them well, one of them okay, and two not at all. Guess what the majority of the short answer was? The two I didn’t know. Why does that always happen?

Well, on a happy note, I am all registered for classes now. I will be taking Comp Sci 311, 365 and 494 and Medieval Studies 202. Of course, that’s provided I pass all my classes this semester. ;) I’m actually looking forward to next semester for some odd reason. Perhaps it’s because Sims 2 comes out!! Which reminds me, Makin’ Magic came out today. Why hasn’t Amazon emailed me to say that it has shipped? Hmm…

I love gaim-blogger!
